To sin is to err. You do not take the plunge.

Meaning: To err means to sin, to do wrong, to make a mistake. Note that there is judgment involved - to take the plunge or not. So, sinning involves a conscious decision to do wrong.

God is all good, perfect and true. When Adam and Eve went against God by “eating the fruit of good and evil”, they sinned. As they continued to go against

their true nature, which is Godlike, they sinned more and more. The same holds true for the fallen angels. When they started feeling arrogance, they went against the nature of God in them. This is why in the sculpture about free will, the word SINNER is written in the heart of the person.

Another way to paraphrase God’s commandment “Do not eat the fruit of the tree of good and evil.” is: “Do not go against Me, which is your true self. Do not commit a sin. “Jesus words: “Your will and not my will” is a very good summation of this. My will means – my choice. Your will –God’s choice. Jesus chose not to choose. This is what we ought to do.

Our actions alone are not the basis for judging if one is doing something wrong but the intentions behind our actions. As God said, we are self-serving and have malice in our intentions but often kid ourselves into believing that we are benevolent.
